Sober Thought of the Day
“We look up to see if it is day or night.  If stars burn cool and moon does shine, we take to smoke divine and wine.
If breath of sun does belch its heat,
we boil coffee and prepare to eat.”  ―    Roman Payne

Today’s Saint
Obedience unites us so closely to God that in a way transforms us into Him, so
that we have no other will but His. If obedience is lacking, even prayer cannot
be pleasing to God.”– St. Thomas Aquinas

Psalm of the Day
Responsorial Psalm PS 42:2-3; 43:3, 4

R. (see 3a) Athirst is my soul for the living God. or: R. Alleluia. As the hind longs for the running waters, so my soul longs for you, O God. Athirst is my soul for God, the living God. When shall I go and behold the face of God? R. Athirst is my soul for the living God. or: R. Alleluia. Send forth your light and your fidelity; they shall lead me on And bring me to your holy mountain, to your dwelling-place. R. Athirst is my soul for the living God. or: R. Alleluia. Then will I go in to the altar of God, the God of my gladness and joy; Then will I give you thanks upon the harp, O God, my God! R. Athirst is my soul for the living God. or: R. Alleluia.

Sober Thought of the Day
Night life is when you get up with a hangover in the morning. Night life is when everybody says what the hell and you do not remember who paid the bill. Night life goes round and round and you look at the wall to make it stop. Night life comes out of a bottle and goes into a jar. If you think how much are the drinks it is not night life.” ― Ernest Hemingway, 88 Poems

When I was in high school I went on a trip to Europe with my Spanish class. I went to the bar in which Hemingway used to sit and write and I remember thinking how cool was that–it sounded wonderful to me, to drink and write, drink and write.  Number 9

Psalm of the Day
Responsorial Psalm PS 89:21-22, 25 AND 27

R. (2) For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

“I have found David, my servant;
with my holy oil I have anointed him.
That my hand may always be with him;
and that my arm may make him strong.”
R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

“My faithfulness and my mercy shall be with him;
and through my name shall his horn be exalted.
He shall say of me, ‘You are my father,
my God, the Rock, my savior!’“
R. For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

“The soul is like an uninhabited world that comes to life only when God lays His head against us.”  ― St. Thomas Aquinas

Sober Thought of the Day
“Sir, if you were my husband, I would poison your drink.”
“Madam, if you were my wife, I would drink it.”
Exchange between Lady Astor and Winston Churchill—”

This psalm always makes me think of the choices I made when I was younger on who my friends were. I chose friends who were fun.  Today, I choose my friends more wisely. Number 9

Psalm of the Day
Responsorial Psalm PS 1:1-2, 3, 4 AND 6

R. (40:5a) Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.

Blessed the man who follows not
the counsel of the wicked
Nor walks in the way of sinners,
nor sits in the company of the insolent,
But delights in the law of the LORD
and meditates on his law day and night.
R. Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.

He is like a tree
planted near running water,
That yields its fruit in due season,
and whose leaves never fade.
Whatever he does, prospers.
R. Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.

Not so, the wicked, not so;
they are like chaff which the wind drives away.
For the LORD watches over the way of the just,
but the way of the wicked vanishes.
R. Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.
