November 1 – All Saints Day (holy day of obligation)

Standard

Today’s Saint:
‘Truly it is a blessed thing to love on earth as we hope to love in Heaven, and to begin that friendship here which is to endure for ever there. I am not now speaking of simple charity, a love due to all mankind, but of that spiritual friendship which binds souls together, leading them to share devotions and spiritual interests, so as to have but one mind between them. . . There are two sayings in Holy Scripture on which all Christian friendship should be built: – that of the Wise Man, “Whoso feareth the Lord shall direct his friendship aright;” and that of St. James, “The friendship of the world is enmity with God.”‘ St. Francis de Sales

Sober Thought of the Day
All Saints Day… I think about the saints and how many trials and temptations they had. Yet they kept their eyes on God, kept their focus on Jesus. Not me. I have trials and temptations–especially to do with my alcoholic mind— and I look for the easy way out—beg God.. expect the miracles He promised.. and I believed He would give me miracles—but He didn’t. It is His will, His plan.

Today’s Psalm:
Responsorial Psalm PS 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6

R. (see 6) Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

The LORD’s are the earth and its fullness;
the world and those who dwell in it.
For he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.

R. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

Who can ascend the mountain of the LORD?
or who may stand in his holy place?
One whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean,
who desires not what is vain.

R. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

He shall receive a blessing from the LORD,
a reward from God his savior.
Such is the race that seeks him,
that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.

R. Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face
