Sober Thought of the Day
“In wine there is wisdom, in beer there is Freedom, in water there is bacteria.”
― Benjamin Franklin

After having stayed away from the drink for a long time, we forget what helped us stay sober in the beginning of this new life.  And so then the crazy idea pops into our heads that a drink sounds like a good idea. I must remember to take each morning to thank God for my precious gift of sobriety, and it is a gift, and to ask him to help me this day to stay sober. One day at a time is not just a slogan. It is a way of life for those of us wishing to live life on life’s terms without escaping through alcohol. Number 9

Psalm of the Day
Responsorial Psalm PS 8:2AB AND 5, 6-7, 8-9

R. (2ab) O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!

O LORD, our Lord,
how glorious is your name over all the earth!
What is man that you should be mindful of him,
or the son of man that you should care for him?
R. O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!

You have made him little less than the angels,
and crowned him with glory and honor.
You have given him rule over the works of your hands,
putting all things under his feet.
R. O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!

All sheep and oxen,
yes, and the beasts of the field,
The birds of the air, the fishes of the sea,
and whatever swims the paths of the seas.
R. O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth!

Today’s Saint
“On the question of relating to our fellowman – our neighbor’s spiritual need transcends every commandment. Everything else we do is a means to an end. But love is an end already, since God is love.”  -St. Teresia Benedicta (Edith Stein)
