Sober Thought of the Day
“His lips drink water; but his heart drinks wine” ― E.E. Cummings

My lips drink water but my heart drinks wine—love this. Even though I continue to do the next right thing, don’t drink and go to meetings, sometimes it sure would be nice to have a drink at the end of a long day. My heart doesn’t remember that it never was just “one” drink. My heart only remembers the pleasant things. Number 9

Psalm of the Day
Responsorial Psalm PS 33:4-5, 18-19, 20 AND 22

R. (5b) The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

Upright is the word of the LORD,
and all his works are trustworthy.
He loves justice and right;
of the kindness of the LORD the earth is full.
R. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

See, the eyes of the LORD are upon those who fear him,
upon those who hope for his kindness,
To deliver them from death
and preserve them in spite of famine.
R. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

Our soul waits for the LORD,
who is our help and our shield.
May your kindness, O LORD, be upon us
who have put our hope in you.
R. The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.

Today’s Saint
Fly from bad companions as from the bite of a poisonous snake. If you keep good companions, I can assure you that you will one day rejoice with the blessed in Heaven; whereas if you keep with those who are bad, you will become bad yourself, and you will be in danger of losing your soul.  St. John Bosco
