Sober Thought for the Day
“The great fact is this, and nothing less: That we have had deep and effective spiritual experiences* which have revolutionized our whole attitude toward life, toward our fellows and toward God’s universe. The central fact of our lives today is the absolute certainty that our Creator has entered into our hearts and lives in a way that is indeed miraculous. He has commenced to accomplish those things for us that we could never do by ourselves.” AA Big Book, page 25, paragraph 3

Sometimes I wonder if when I hit my “bottom” with alcohol abuse, was this my spiritual experience?  Hitting my bottom, almost losing my children over my drinking, was that a spiritual experience?  I think “hitting bottom” is simply surrendering in prayer, “Dear God, I’m finished. This is as far as I am willing to go in this direction. Please pull me back up to You.” Number 9

Psalm of the Day
Responsorial Psalm PS 86:1-2, 3-4, 5-6

R. (11ab) Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

Incline your ear, O LORD; answer me,
for I am afflicted and poor.
Keep my life, for I am devoted to you;
save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God.
R. Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

Have mercy on me, O Lord,
for to you I call all the day.
Gladden the soul of your servant,
for to you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.
R. Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.

For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving,
abounding in kindness to all who call upon you.
Hearken, O LORD, to my prayer
and attend to the sound of my pleading.
R. Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth.
